I was inspired to write this article after reading an editorial in the New York Times about the Health Benefits of Running.
According to the editorial, there are actually several different health benefits to running. It encourages people to get out there and start running to help reduce their stress levels, improve their mental health, and even help them lose weight. It’s a really great source of motivation to read something like that, especially since I’ve been meaning to write an article about my own experiences with running. Now that the muse has found me, it’s time to settle down and write!
Reduces Stress
Running helps reduce stress. It’s been proven that regular exercise can lower your blood pressure, which in turn reduces the stress you feel. If you find that running makes you feel better, then by all means do it! Every couple of weeks I like to take the dog for a jog. It’s such a rewarding feeling to run with your dog by your side. It clears your head and helps you relax after a stressful day. Plus, it’s good for your dog’s health too!
Helps Improve Mental Health
When I read about the mental health benefits of running, I became immediately inspired to write an article about it as well. It’s well-established that exercise can improve your mental health, and running falls perfectly into that category. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, and it forces you to focus on your breathing and body movements rather than your worries. It also helps increase levels of endorphins in your brain, which in turn makes you feel happier! If you’re looking for a way to improve your overall well-being, then I highly recommend you consider taking up running.
It’s Good For Your Weight Loss Attempts
Last but not least, let’s talk about the weight loss benefits of running. As I’ve been relentlessly smashing my weight-loss goals for the past year, I’ve started to look into why this is happening and whether or not running has something to do with it. To my surprise, it turns out that running can help with weight loss and it’s something that I’ve been doing deliberately for this purpose!
When you run, your body burns calories far more efficiently than when you walk. This is because when you run, your muscles are constantly contracting, which forces your body to use more calories just to keep moving. If you’re looking to lose weight, then simply start running. If you’d like, you can use apps like Runkeeper or Garmin to track your runs and set up workouts with a personal trainer. With a little bit of effort and dedication, you can’t go wrong!
When it comes to being healthy, I think running is a fantastic choice for so many reasons. Hopefully this article will help persuade you to start running or help you discover the joy of running for the first time. Which mode of transport do you use to get to work?
