Everyone knows the saying “no pain, no gain” and for Chrissy Metz this is true. At least for now. The Vanderpump Rules star has had a lot of drama and tribulations in her life so far but she has always managed to land on her feet. Maybe it’s because she’s a survivor, or maybe it’s because she has a bit of a chameleon quality. Whatever the reason, Metz has never been one to easily give in to society’s expectations of her. Which is why the question of why she hasn’t lost weight yet is something that has plagued her for a long time.
In 2019, Metz finally opened up about her struggle with weight and how she has been fighting it for most of her life. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted that she had “never been fat, I’ve always been thin. I was very, very scrawny as a kid. At first it was really frustrating because I knew what my role models looked like…and I didn’t look like them.”
“When I was about 14 or 15, I started getting a little chubby and I remember being really upset about it. That’s when I decided to take control of my body. I started working out a lot and eventually lost a whole bunch of weight. There was a lot of drama with my friends and family about it. They all thought that I had cheated or done something wrong.”
The issue of Metz’s weight has been raised several times on social media. On January 7, she shared an old photo of herself on Instagram along with the caption “honestly one of the most frustrating things about being famous is people constantly commenting on your weight…”, before going on to thank her fans for their support.
In September, she opened up about her weight struggle further and shared her diet and exercise routine on social media. “I’ve never been fat and rarely put on weight, probably because I rarely eat that much. Most of the weight I’ve gained over the years has been from muscle,” she wrote. “I try to eat a lot of veggies and fruit which help me stay slender. I also do a lot of squats and lunges to build up my muscles.”
“I started working out a lot when I was between seasons of Vanderpump Rules. It helped me get my mind off things and focus on something else. I also do CrossFit now which is really helping me keep in shape. It’s not just about the weight loss, it’s about getting a workout and feeling good about yourself.”
Survival Of The Fittest
It seems that Metz has always been a survivor. After making it through a lot in her life, it’s no surprise that she’s struggled with weight her entire adult life and maintained a healthy body despite whatever life circumstances she’s faced. Going through a rough patch now is nothing new for her. She’s been there before and gotten through it. Perhaps her biggest challenge was becoming famous at a young age and then having to deal with all the extra attention and pressure that comes along with it. Now that she’s at a point where she’s comfortable in her skin and knows what she’s dealing with, she’s determined to keep her body in good shape and enjoy life how she wants to.
“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in life and in love but I’ve always been able to come back stronger,” she said in her interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I think that’s what’s kept me going this long is that I know what I’m working for. I’ve always wanted to be a size 11 and been told I’m not skinny enough, I’ve always wanted to be able to wear certain clothes and been told I’m not curvy enough. So it’s like, I may not look like what you want me to look like, but inside I’m working hard to achieve what you want me to achieve. So it keeps me motivated.”
Chrissy Metz: A Role Model For Many
According to the interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Metz has always wanted to be a role model for other women. She grew up watching her mother be a strong woman who worked hard to provide for her family and never let anything get in the way of her dreams. As a result, Metz is determined to show women that they can be comfortable in their own skin and enjoy life how they want to.
“I always wanted to be a role model to other women because I feel like we’re so disconnected from our bodies. As humans, I think we’ve forgotten how beautiful and powerful we can be. I want women to feel that they can shake off those negative thoughts and be proud of what they have.”
Why Hasn’t She Lost More Weight?
Although Metz has always been thin, she’s never really been considered anorexic or suffering from low self-esteem. This is mainly because she’s been a relatively low-maintenance patient throughout her adult life. She doesn’t go overboard with starving herself or trying to lose a ton of weight as soon as she hits puberty. She takes her time and makes sure that she gets everything right before she goes on a diet or exercise program.
Now that she’s older and has more free time, Metz has decided to finally address her weight issue head-on. In 2019, she opened up about her struggle with weight and how she has been fighting it for most of her life. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted that she had “never been fat, I’ve always been thin. I was very, very scrawny as a kid. Why Won’t She Diet Or Exercise?
Although it’s been a while since Metz had an issue with her weight, she still won’t consider dieting or going on a workout program. To her, it’s not about losing weight for the sake of losing weight. She does it because she wants to feel better, not because she feels like she has to. This is mainly because she wants to enjoy life how she wants to.
“I’ve always known that I’ve had the perfect body and that people were always asking me to be on diets and lose the weight. But I never did because I never felt like I needed to. I’ve always had my reasons for not wanting to lose the weight and I feel like this is one of those times,” she said in her interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I want to enjoy life how I want to, feel comfortable in whatever size clothes I want to wear, and be able to take care of myself the way I want to.”
Since she’s been in a healthy relationship with James Reid for a while now, she sees this as the perfect opportunity to focus on more important things in her life. She also wants to take care of her fans by providing them with content that they can benefit from. As she told Harper’s Bazaar, “I’ve always wanted to make sure that people know that I’m here for them. I want to make this the most positive interview that they’ve ever read.”
