So you have decided to switch to a ketogenic diet. That’s exciting! You’re making the right choice for yourself, your family, and the planet. You’re choosing to rely on plants and animals rather than chemicals to fuel your body. That’s huge!
But, how much weight will you lose? What are your expectations?
Well, if you’re asking how much weight I’ve lost since I started eating keto, you’ll have to wait until June. But, if you want to know how much weight I expect to lose, the answer is: a lot!
In fact, I lost over 20 lbs in the first month and a half since I started on keto and I expect to lose around 25 lbs by the end of the year.
Here’s why…
Why Keto And Not Another Diet?
I decided to try a ketogenic diet after trying many other diets over the years. I’ve tried on my own, with teams of personal trainers, and with weight loss camps who coached me along with thousands of others. I even did the Whole30 diet, where you’re supposed to eat only what’s on the menu for the month, and then go back to your regular diet. No matter what diet I tried, I never lost more than a couple of pounds. It’s always been a struggle for me to lose weight. Even when I did lose weight it would always be right back the next day.
But, after reading about the ketogenic diet and what it can do for your health, I knew I had to give it a try. And, so far, it’s been the best choice I’ve ever made. Not only has it helped me shed off the pounds, but my mental health has also improved. I feel like myself again. I feel like the old me, before I got sick. The old me was excited to be alive and happy to be around family and friends. And, while the ketogenic diet has definitely helped me with that, it’s also had a profound impact on my personal life. I’ve grown as a person and I feel more connected to others on a personal level than ever before. The diet has made me a better person and has brought me closer to those around me. I can’t put into words how much that means to me. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I wasn’t supposed to be happy. I was supposed to be struggling with my weight as much as everyone else. But, thank God for the ketogenic diet, because now I get to experience the feeling of being healthy instead of sick. And that, my friends, is something you want to remember.
How Does The Ketogenic Diet Work?
The ketogenic diet is all the rage these days. People are finally realizing the great things that it can do for their health. If you want to know how it works, check out this awesome article by Dr. Mercola. In it, he breaks down the very basics of what a ketogenic diet is and how it can benefit your health.
Basically, a ketogenic diet works by putting your body into a state of ketosis. This is different from the normal state of being in which you are in. When you are in ketosis, your body is very efficient at using fat for energy. So much so that you don’t need to eat for a while. When you overcome this state of ketosis, you will experience an increase in hunger and cravings. This is why it’s important to limit your food intake while in the ketogenic diet. Otherwise, you may end up damaging your health in the process.
There are primarily two types of fats that you will find in abundance on a ketogenic diet. These are ketones and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). The first one, ketones, are essentially the bodies’ own fuel sources that are made during the digestion of fat. They are more stable than regular fats and aren’t depleted as quickly when used as fuel. As a result, you may experience fewer ups and downs when staying in the state of ketosis. If you want to know more, check out this article by Natasha Barreto where she breaks down the science behind ketogenic dieting and the importance of keeping your body in a state of ketosis.
How Long Does It Take For You To See Results On Keto?
The results of your ketogenic diet will probably vary from person to person. It depends on your body size and how much you weigh. But, as a general rule of thumb, it takes about three to six months for your body to adjust to the new way of living and start producing ketones at a sufficient level to have a positive effect on your health. If you’ve been eating a high-carb diet and have a lot of weight to lose, then you might want to try a ketogenic diet for a shorter period of time. After about three months on the diet, you can begin to experiment with eating more carbs and seeing how that affects your health. If you’ve been following a ketogenic diet for a while and are in good health, then you may want to continue on it for the rest of your life.
There are also people who’ve had success with a ketogenic diet in less than a month. If you’re one of these people, then you’re clearly following the right diet for yourself. But for the majority of us, it takes a bit of time to see results.
Should You Follow A Keto Diet Alone Or In Conjunction With Other Lifestyle Changes?
If you’re interested in following a ketogenic diet for weight loss, then you need to do it alongside other lifestyle changes. This will help increase the chances of you seeing fast and significant results. It’s important to note here that the ketogenic diet should not be a substitute for medical care. If you’re looking for a fad diet, then you’ve come to the right place. But if you’re looking for something more sustainable, then the ketogenic diet may be the right choice for you.
To increase the chances of you losing weight, it is highly advisable to:
- Follow a low-carb diet,
- Reduce your energy intake,
- Take supplements, and
- Get some exercise.
These four lifestyle changes will increase your chances of losing weight and getting healthy again. If you’re looking to make a permanent change to your lifestyle, then the ketogenic diet may be better choice than trying to overhaul your diet and exercise all at once. It’s not easy to change your behavior and expectations when you’re talking about food and exercise, and that’s what makes this choice worth it. You’re essentially giving yourself a treat by not eating certain foods and getting regular exercise. But you’re also training your body to function better and be more efficient at burning energy. This is a diet you can rely on, because it’s based on science and provides you with a clear direction. Plus, you’ll feel happier and more satisfied when you eat food that isn’t processed and packaged. So it’s definitely a lifestyle change that will help you achieve your goals.
If you’re interested in trying out a ketogenic diet for weight loss, then my recommendation is to start out slow. It’s better to take it easy at first and see how your body reacts. If you’re not used to consuming a lot of fats, then it may be hard for your body to get in the habit of making them. And that’s what makes this choice worth it, because at the end of the day, you’re helping your body adjust to a new way of living and lessening your risks of overweight and obesity. So, don’t worry about eating too much fat or running off excess pounds right away. Take it easy, learn from mistakes, and you’ll get there in no time. And you’ll be glad you did.
