Rebel Wilson is one of the most well-known comedians of our time. She’s best known for her appearances on SNL, where she has impersonated various celebrities, from Oprah Winfrey to Meryl Streep. But how did Rebel achieve her famous body? We traced her weight loss journey, from eating fried chicken to looking after her mental health.
From Munchies To Modesty
Rebel grew up in Orange County, California and began her comedy career when she was just 14 years old. From there, she went on to study acting at Northwestern University. She later graduated in 2016 and began appearing in TV shows.
One of her first big breaks came when she was shortlisted for Breakthrough Talent at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016. She went on to become one of the most in-demand comedians in the world, performing at venues such as the prestigious Comedy Store in Los Angeles. She also performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, where she showcased her impersonations of famous women.
In June 2017, Rebel checked into a wellness retreat in Big Sur, California, where she stayed for three weeks. It was during this self-discovery phase that she decided to take a step back from her comedy career and focus on herself. This is when she started losing weight and changing her lifestyle.
According to a source close to the actress, at this point, she started eating healthy and became less of a socialite. As a result, she dropped nearly 20 pounds in just three weeks.
After returning from her retreat, Rebel focused on getting her health back and began working out daily. She also started taking yoga lessons, which helped her relax and de-stress. All these changes helped her shed off the extra weight.
Then, in October 2017, she appeared as a guest host on “Watch What Happens LIVE” alongside Andy Cohen. During the show, she opened up about her weight loss journey and revealed that she had tried to lose weight in the past, but hadn’t succeeded. She also talked about the harmful effects of food and drugs, stating that she had spent the last 15 years of her life “comically ill”. This is when her health journey really hit home.
Following this appearance, Rebel began sharing her weight loss story with her fans and opened up about her past insecurities. In January 2018, she posted a picture on Instagram of herself in a bikini, alongside the caption: “I love being in a bikini. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or hot out. I still feel comfortable in a tiny teeny bikini. I never felt that way when I was heavier.” This caused a social media frenzy as her followers praised her for her confidence. Some even accused her of being too perfect, stating that she couldn’t possibly look this amazing without working at it. This is when Rebel knew she wanted to continue losing weight and became determined to do so.
The Eating Habits
Rebel started by changing the way she ate. She told E! News: “I decided to focus on plants instead of animals and reduce my meat intake. That was the most important thing. Everything else is secondary.” According to a source close to the actress, around this time, she started experimenting with a vegan diet, which helped her shed off about 10 pounds. Then, she moved onto a macrobiotic diet, which she continues to follow today. These diets consist of whole foods like vegetables, fruits, and nuts, and avoid food products made with processed foods.
She also started taking supplements, which helped her lose weight and boost her health. In January 2018, she revealed that she was taking the weight loss supplement Lipotrim, which, according to the company, helps to “elevate healthy hormonal levels and burn excess fat”. Since then, Rebel has continued to take the supplements and credits them with helping her to lose a total of 30 pounds. In addition to Lipotrim and the supplements, Rebel drinks plenty of water and avoids alcohol and sugar. She also tries to get at least seven hours of sleep each night.
To lose weight and stay healthy, Rebel started doing some research into the best workout for her. She wanted something that would build her stamina while also getting her muscles activated. The results of her research led her to try out the Insanity workout, which she credits with helping her to lose about 20 pounds. This is one of the more popular workout DVDs, combining exercise with comedy. During the 90-minute workout, the participants do battle ropes, box jumps, and squats while also acting out hilarious scenes from movies and TV shows. It’s no wonder that this is the workout that Rebel turned to, as it helped her to both lose weight and feel happier and more relaxed. In addition to Insanity, she also does Bikini Atoll, a mixture of yoga and Zumba, as part of her workout regime. This has helped her to keep her curves while also keeping her toned.
The Mental Health
Speaking of feeling happier and more relaxed, Rebel said that she started seeing patterns in her seemingly random thoughts and feelings, which helped her understand that she was in a “comically depressed” state for the majority of her life. This is when she decided to try and be more positive and realized that her mood could be improved by changing the way she thought. So, she started doing some research into brain health and learned about the benefits of positive thinking. As a result, she changed her outlook and began focusing on the positives in her life, like the people she loves and the food she enjoys. This, in turn, helped her to become more relaxed and content.
Overall, Rebel’s health journey came at a great time for her as she was at the peak of her career. With so much attention on her, she was able to shed off the weight and show the world how beautiful and talented she truly is.
