It’s no secret that NCIS (Netflix) is one of the most popular shows on TV. Although the formula for this series has been a bit reversed from the golden era of Golden Girls, it has still managed to charm audiences with its combination of humor and action. And although most of us have probably seen it before, there’s always something new to discover on one of the many different platforms that the show is available on.
Now, one of the show’s stars has shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how he was able to shed 20 pounds in just six weeks for his role as Dr. McGee. And although some of you might be tempted to try his diet plan out already, we’d recommend that you hold off for a while.
McGee recently appeared on the show’s 200th episode to promote his new book, The Doctor Is In: Health, Home Remedies and Hospitality For When the Doctor Is Most Definitely Not In (Grand Central Publishing). While there, he opened up about his journey to lose weight and shared some insider tips on how to lose 10 pounds in a month and a half. So without further ado, read on as we break down his weight loss secrets.
How Did McGee On NCIS Lose So Much Weight?
To begin with, McGee is not an anorexic. According to him, when it comes to losing weight, the ancient Greek word for “fast” can be applied. And although that might sound like a crazy diet philosophy, it’s actually based on sound science.
In his new book, McGee explains that when we overeat or eat the wrong foods, our bodies produce extra chemicals called catecholamines, making us feel energetic. So, when Dr. McGee on NCIS wants to lose weight, he’s going to focus on interrupting this cycle of overeating by changing his diet.
“I try to limit my food intake to a predetermined amount of volumes and calories,” he told EW. “Instead of a calorie controlled diet, I try to limit myself to a volume controlled diet. And rather than counting calories, I work on reducing my carbohydrate intake.”
While it’s always great to encourage people to eat healthier and more organic meals, it’s not always easy to drop those extra few pounds. Especially when you’re not an anorexic waiting to drop a few pounds. So, for those of you who want to hit the laundry chamber after work for a five pound weight loss, you’re going to have to change your way of thinking.
The 21 Day Weight Loss Plan
Dr. McGee’s idea of losing weight by reducing carbohydrates instead of cutting back on calories is actually based on a fantastic six week diet that he developed.
The star shared with EW that, during his research phase, he made many discoveries about the most effective ways of losing weight. One of the main ones was that, in order to drop a significant amount of weight, you’re going to have to change the way you think about eating. He also found that, although it would be great to be able to cut back on those unhealthy foods that we love so much, the fact is that, when it comes to losing weight, it’s all or nothing. So, if you want to give this dietsplaining a try, you’re going to have to concentrate on cutting back on those foods that you know are bad for you.
The Low Fiber Diet And Why You Should Try It
So you may wondering why Dr. McGee would recommend a low fiber diet. After all, cutting back on those fiber rich foods is one of the major ingredients in any diet programs. And although it’s not exactly a no‐food list, it is full of foods that are low in fiber. That means they digest quickly and don’t necessitate a significant action in your body to be absorbed. And for those of you who are looking to shed some pounds, that’s good news. The bad news, however, is that these foods also contain amino acids, which stimulate appetite. So if you want to see your laundry chamber after work, you’re gonna have to find a way to eliminate those appetite stimulants. Which brings us to the next point.
How To Avoid The Appetite Stimulants
One of the major reasons why Dr. McGee determined that a low fiber diet was the best option for losing weight is because those foods are high in sodium. Which brings us to our next point.
Although we usually think of salt as being unhealthy, it’s actually a wonderful mineralsynth that our bodies require. And although it’s true that too much salt can be detrimental to our health, too little of the mineral can do the same. In fact, salt deficiency has been known to cause health problems. Which is why Dr. McGee doesn’t recommend a low salt diet. Instead, he prefers that you eat a balanced diet of foods that are high in fiber. And although this may seem like a no‐brainer, it’s actually rather difficult to find foods that are high in fiber and low in salt. Which is why this particular portion of the Dr. McGee diet book is so valuable. It’s full of strategies and tips on how to achieve this combination of high fiber and low salt that you may find difficult to achieve in your everyday life. So, if you want to be able to hit the laundry chamber after work, change the way you eat.
