How Elon Musk Lost Weight

After becoming one of the wealthiest men in the world, Elon Musk decided to make some changes to his lifestyle in order to remain happy and healthy. Since going vegan, Tesla stock has jumped from $191 per share to $259, creating more than $10 billion in value for shareholders.

Musk has spoken openly about his vegan diet and the impact it’s had on his life. In an interview with CNBC, he said:

“What would I say, [the diet] completely changed my life for the better. So much so that if I weren’t vegan, I would very likely still be a struggling entrepreneur, who doesn’t know how to cook. Or perhaps I would have become a professional chef or something like that.”

On his Twitter account, Musk often promotes veganism and the advantages it brings. He even shared a video of him whipping up some vegan mayo to celebrate vegan day, which he declared in September.

Musk’s Plant-Based Diet

Musk is not the first billionaire to go vegan; in fact, Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos have both dabbled in plant-based food and lifestyle choices. What sets Musk apart is the way he’s shared his vegan journey publicly. Through his blogs and Twitter account, Musk has openly discussed everything from the effect diet had on his well-being to the challenges of being vegan in a social setting. Much of this has to do with the fact that he’s a public figure, but Musk also believes that speaking more openly about his experiences will help others who are on the same journey.

Musk has detailed his plant-based diet in several blog posts. While many of these posts are old (dating back to 2016), he’s kept the diet as part of his daily regimen and continues to share his experiences. When asked by a Redditor if he planned to write a book about his vegan journey, Musk replied:

“Books are a fantastic way to share one’s experiences with others. And with the world of digital publishing, anyone can put their thoughts into words and share them with the world. So I think it’s a great idea.”

Musk’s Weight Loss

Musk isn’t the only person who’s noticed a difference since going vegan; many people have lost a lot of weight thanks to the plant-based food. According to research, people who go vegan experience an average weight loss of 14 pounds, which is why many nutritionists suggest going vegan as a means of combating obesity.

Musk has been open about the fact that he’s noticed a major difference in his body since going vegan, especially when it comes to his mental faculties. In early 2018, he tweeted:

“Veganism has improved my mental health, in some ways, more than any medication I’ve taken in the past. In some ways, it’s been even more beneficial than anti-depressants. And it doesn’t cause any of the side effects of the medication.”

While it’s unclear what specific qualities of veganism helped Musk in this area, it’s clear that the choice made a major difference in his life. In the same blog post, he detailed how his mental faculties were more intact after going vegan. He credited this to several factors, including vitamin B12, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids, but also mentioned that his experience was, at least in part, due to going vegan.

Musk’s journey isn’t unique; many people, including prominent figures in the vegan and plant-based communities, have found that going vegan changes their life for the better. If you’re interested in trying out a diet that promotes health and well-being, there’s much to be said for giving veganism a try.
