Crissy Metz is the former editor-in-chief of Allure, formerly the country’s #1 beauty magazine. She became famous for her role as Miranda Hobbes on the Netflix series House of Gucci, catapulting her to the forefront of the fashion crowd.
After a brief hiatus, the 45-year-old businesswoman, writer, and TV host is back with a new show, The Crissy Metz Guide to Fashion, which premieres on January 17th on the Paramount Network.
The show is similar to her previous work – in fact, it’s almost a direct replication – as Metz dives into the fashion world and helps her celebrity guest navigate the industry.
Here, she dishes on her new show, how she’s changed as an individual since becoming famous, and the significance of her famous ex-husband, actor Vince Vaughn’s, recent decision to go vegan.
The New Best Friend: Fashion
When Miranda Hobbes (Crissy Metz) joined the House of Gucci, she became fast friends with the fashion house’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, who would eventually propose to her.
In the show, Metz helps celebrity guest navigate the fashion industry, utilizing her extensive network of connections to lend a helping hand. The first season focused on Metz’ friendship with the creative director of Christian Dior, John Galliano, and her support of the vegan lifestyle.
Though she’s been actively promoting veganism for years, it was something new for Metz to appear with a microphone in her hand, eager to educate the public on the benefits of a plant-based diet. She’s also partnered with the vegan lifestyle blog Lovin’ What’s Healthy to promote the lifestyle, and appeared in a PETA ad campaign for the same reason.
A Brand New You: Health
After starring in House of Gucci for five years, Metz revealed in November that she’s entered into a ‘conscious uncoupling’ from the industry. During the final season of House of Gucci, she learned that she was pregnant, and since then, she’s dedicated herself to motherhood. In the years since, Metz has become a dedicated vegan, and shifted her attention to health and wellness, revealing she’s lost a substantial amount of weight and feels a new sense of freedom.
According to the former beauty editor, her health journey has been an organic one, and stemmed from a desire to become a better mother, as well as make a concerted effort to shift her unhealthy habits. So far, she’s adhered to a plant-based diet, and says she feels stronger both physically and mentally. She also credits the practice to a lower cholesterol level and blood pressure, resulting in fewer heart-related problems.
Going Stronger: Career
While on House of Gucci, Metz was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, and won the award, becoming the first person to win two awards for a Netflix original show.
She’s also had an extremely successful post-Gucci career, and is responsible for the creation of the popular blog, Crissy Metz, where she chronicled her friendship with Christian Dior’s John Galliano and reported on the fashion industry. She subsequently launched her own lifestyle website, where she offers tips and tricks on how to live a healthier life for less money. In addition to her blog, Metz also writes a column for the Huffington Post and has contributed to other publications including Teen Vogue.
Since leaving House of Gucci, she’s found a new home at the Paramount Network, who she says are’very supportive of my new lifestyle,’ and have helped her to make the transition from ‘just an actress’ to a ‘health and wellness expert.’ She continues to champion veganism, and says the lifestyle changes she’s made will ultimately result in her earning more money, both professionally and personally. ‘I want to be able to support my family and have the energy to do the things I love. I have a lot to give, so I’m aiming high,’ she said recently.
Vince Vaughn’s Veganism
In December 2018, Crissy Metz’s former husband, actor Vince Vaughn, announced that he’s gone vegan, and since then, his lifestyle has been featured heavily on social media. The 48-year-old actor revealed that he’d been interested in veganism since before he was famous, but had never had the courage to commit. After becoming friends with Jethro Tulloch, the founder of ethical vegan grocery store The Herbivorous Butcher, Vaughn decided to make the change for the sake of his health. Tulloch’s company provided the bulk of the meat for Vaughn’s acting roles, and although he enjoyed the food, the actor noticed that it was contributing to an unhealthy lifestyle. In the first season of The Crissy Metz Guide to Fashion, Metz’s ex-husband credits his decision to go vegan to his close friend Tulloch, and the two have been actively supporting and encouraging each other on their respective health journeys, with Tulloch even offering to construct a vegan villa so that Vaughn can cook his own food.
According to Metro, the decision to go vegan was a long time coming, and began with a heart-to-heart talk with Tulloch, who urged the actor to consider the impact of his diet on the environment. Since then, Vaughn has been documenting his transition to veganism on TikTok, where he’s amassed almost four million followers, and has encouraged his fans to follow suit.
Vaughn has also spoken openly about his support for Bernie Sanders for President, which stands in stark contrast to Metz’s support for Donald Trump. The two used to joke about their political differences, but no longer can, as the actor continues to be vocal about his beliefs.
The Importance of a Healthy Lifestyle
As a celebrity, Metz is used to being in the public eye, and understands the scrutiny that comes along with being a role model. That’s why she’s dedicated herself to being the best possible mother she can be, and why she’s taken steps to ensure that her diet and lifestyle are healthy – she wants to be able to set an example for her young child, Ella, who she says asks ‘why aren’t we eating animals’?
According to Health.com, a healthy lifestyle is important for everyone, even those who don’t consider themselves to be particularly susceptible to certain illnesses. The website points out that certain diseases are caused by a combination of factors, including genetics and lifestyle, and that there are some significant benefits to a healthy lifestyle that everyone can enjoy.
In addition to bettering your health, a healthy lifestyle can also improve your quality of life. If you’re not physically active, you’ll notice a significant difference in your mental capacity. Studies have also shown that staying hydrated can boost your mood, and help you to concentrate, so you can get more done at work. It’s generally a good idea to eat healthy foods, as they’ll give you energy and help you to maintain a positive outlook. Plus, they’ll make you look and feel better, too!
The Future of Wellness and Health
In 2022, more and more people are going above and beyond what the ‘mainstream’ medical system can offer. It’s not unusual for people to seek out alternative therapies for illnesses, or resort to self-treatment when they don’t feel their particular physician is offering them enough help. In a world where the mainstream doesn’t fully understand what’s happening and often views those who pursue alternative therapies with skepticism, it’s important to embrace the role that lifestyle and health choices play in our overall well-being.
Even when a person is diagnosed with an incurable illness, like cancer, they won’t necessarily accept their fate, and will continue to search for a way to remain healthy. As cancer treatments advance and become more effective, healthy choices will undoubtedly play a larger role in determining a person’s fate. Lifestyle choices, like eating well and being active, can help prevent some major illnesses, and in a world where medicine is still trying to figure out what is causing the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to many premature deaths, it’s clear that a healthy lifestyle is the key to staying healthy.
